Sorry to add another thread along these lines, but I did search through all the others with no luck.

I've been a Linux audio user for a couple of months but my current distro has a few issues so finally decided to give AV a whirl. Downloaded the 4.2 iso and burnt onto a DVD - no problems there. When I boot from DVD to run AV live, it all seems to load properly but when the desktop is ready, I can't click on anything. The mouse works and everything looks OK, but nothing works. I do have an NVidia graphics card so I tried the "live nomodeset" and "live no modeset xdrvr=nv" cheats, but that didn't help.

What I want to know is: is this the same problem described in the "boot bible" thread - something that needs troubleshooting along those lines, or is this something different? Anyone else had the same issue?

Would just installing AV Linux to a partition enable me to try it out, cos I'd be willing to do that if I can install before booting a live disc.

Hi,

Thanks for your diligence in reading before you post.

That is kind of weird for an nVidia based machine, most of the booting bible is in response to ATi problems. Can you try booting it on another machine somewhere, if the desktop works on another machine at least it would suggest that the LiveDVD is OK and that it is a hardware issue. If the LiveDVD fails on another machine it is possible that the download or ISO burn is corrupted. A poor download or ISO burn doesn't always result in a complete failure to boot, sometimes it can be more subtle like the issues you are seeing.

Hey, thanks! I'll try it on my (dying) laptop and report back.

Strange. Downloaded and burnt another ISO, loaded it up and got what seemed to be the same problem. For some reason I thought of disconnecting my Wacom graphics tablet which was plugged on (but not active) and hey presto - stuff worked instead of just looking pretty!

That said... I've just tried for a second time and same problem as before. So I'm not sure it was the Wacom tablet. Seems to just be hit-and-miss as to whether my hardware decides to run the Live DVD in a usable mode or not. I'll just keep trying until it lets me use the live DVD again and then install to a partition and see if that's more stable.

Thanks for the help.

Hmm,

This is pretty abnormal, I really don't know what to tell you... just a shot in the dark, is your monitor hooked up with a DVI or VGA cable? If it's DVI what happens if you use VGA?
