I set up a Mint 10 install from the CD ISO downloaded from Mint.
I made a couple of changes just for testing - eg added extra compiz effects and installed remastersys and unetbootin.

Mint 10 uses grub2, so I followed the instructions and added the line to sources
Quote
For Karmic, Lucid and Newer with grub2 - version 2.0.13-1 and up
# Remastersys
deb http://www.geekconnection.org/remastersys/repository karmic/

When I added the source and clicked close, I got this message
Quote
The information about available software is out-of-date
To install software and updates from newly added or changed sources, you have to reload the information about available software.
You need a working internet connection to continue.
I clicked on close and went to Synaptic Package Manager.
I clicked on Reload.

Then I got an error message
Quote
Could not download all repository indexes ...
Failed to fetch http://www.geekconnection.org/remastersys/repository/karmic/Sources.gz  404  Not Found
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

What does this error mean?
How do I get around it please?

EDIT:
I went ahead and created the ISO and burnt it to a USB flash drive.
It booted into CUI.
I tried to get it into GUI by typing startx but that didn't work.

I don't have sources in the apt repository so those messages are normal.  You may need to install it from the command line if synaptic won't let you as my repo is unsigned right now.

sudo apt-get install remastersys

Would I have to uninstall it first?
If so , how?

I got
Quote
rperrett@Reljoy-Mint ~ $ sudo apt-get install remastersys
[sudo] password for rperrett:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
remastersys is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 62 not upgraded.
So it seems I have remastersys ok - ...
but
why doesn't it work for me?
I get the CUI but not the GUI.
Typing in startx doesn't work. It says .........
well, wouldn't you know...
Went to try to boot it up so I could read the error message again (it was something like couldn't find screen)
and ...
this time it worked!
So all is good. Very good!
Thanks!

spoke too soon.
All is not good,
the install fails when it tries to install grub2.
Doesn't matter which partition I tell it to install on either.
Maybe my /boot partition is no good. I made it ext2 and 500MB.

Try again time.

Tried to boot from the USB again and got the error again that I got before
Fatal server error:
no screens found

I noticed something. I noticed that when I update the sources list using the GUI, Software Sources, it puts in 2 lines
Type: Binary
URI: http://www.geekconnection.org/remastersys/repository
Distribution: Karmic/

Type: Source
URI: http://www.geekconnection.org/remastersys/repository
Distribution: Karmic/

I noticed in http://www.geekconnection.org/remastersys/ubuntu.html
that there is only 1 line mentioned.

So instead of using Software Sources, I edited /etc/apt/sources.list directly.
And this time I did not get any error messages.

Then I used Package Manager to install remastersys and it installed without any error messages.

I hope that this solves my problem. Oh, I also made sure that I did not install the Graphic card drivers, but stayed with the basic video display. Oh, one more thing, I used ext4 for /boot this time.

Hope it works.
