I am doing my senior project on Linux in schools, and I have created a virtualbox with my system configuration for the school. Can i use this program to safely make my virtualbox session into a bootable CD. I know this question might be kind of redundant, but once you see what project I am doing you see why I want to have my I's and T's dotted and crossed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senior_Project

Use this one http://www.geekconnection.org/remastersys/repository/ubuntu-testing/remastersys_3.0.0-1_all.debI just uploaded an updated and fixed one just a few minutes ago. The big thing is how much space you have on your virtual box setup. If you don't have enough space you'll have to create another virtual hd and mount it with your virtual machine. Then set the working folder to this new folder so you can remaster.

My virtualbox drive is expanding, and I gave it 15gigs to start with which seems to be enough. Can you explain to me how to make this program work is their a gui or is it command line, and is this against the rules of Ubuntu to create new live CDs

Install the package and all dependencies. It will give you a menu option called Remastersys that is the gui frontend for it. Ubuntu is not against it. I post on the ubuntu forum about remastersys and have communicated with Colin Watson who is the Ubuntu dev that takes care of the live and installer.

Why wouldn't it? I used to use VB all the time. The only reason I stopped was due to the bugs in it. In fact I did all my testing of the different versions of Ubuntu in VB to ensure remastersys worked fine. A couple of hard drive corruptions from VB and other bugs and I finally gave up on it.

No. Having no other regular apps open means that they are not locked especially if you are running the backup mode.
Guest additions should be fine.

If you are making a dist mode remaster then you should be ok. If you are making a backup then you might want to exclude some larger files from your home folder so it fits in 4GB compressed.

I want to install this theme http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Win2-7+Pack?content=113264 in my cd will your program save the theme? I also want to leave instructions in the form of text files on the desktop will your program keep those. If it does not do this by default how can I make it do this. Thank you for all of your time helping me fix this issue

You have to install the theme globally. If their installer works properly it should do that for you. Make sure to use the Select user whose settings will be used as default before remastering. I would then suggest exiting remastersys, creating a new test user and seeing if it is as you expect since that is what the live user will look like. Remove the test user, tweak as needed, copy settings to default and try creating again until you have it how you want it. When done you can run remastersys to create your iso for you.

I am going to check into your program. I will create the test user, but I am now confused do i need to delete the current user and create a test user and then install the theme, or do I need to install the theme (globally if i can) and then create the iso as a guest with no user.

If you do not install the theme globally it will not be there. No you do not have to delete your user.

If you use dist mode it won't be there anyway. It will be a clean iso with no users.
