Remastersys Backup / Live CD Hangs at User Selection Menu

I've recently created a remastersys backup cd.  When I attempt to boot from the CD, the system hangs at the user selection menu.

Any suggestions of how I might resolve this matter?

I'm in urgent need of a resolution.

Need to know more about your system itself now.  What desktop, what login manager, etc.

If your login manager does any sort of checking of the users there is going to be a problem as you excluded all the home folders of your "term*" users.

The desktop environment is Gnome, the login manager is gdm.

If this is dist mode on Ubuntu 11.10 then I know what you are talking about as I tried it today.  I will be looking at my test remaster this weekend and make have a new package for you to try if I can get it figured out.  It has to do with lightdm.  Everything appears to be coming up fine and if you enter the live username in and no password it goes to the desktop.  Auto login isn't working.  Backup mode may be something different but I'll know more when I look at it in depth this weekend.

Another question for you - is this a fresh 11.10 install or one you upgraded from 11.04?

Ok I found this on my 11.10 remaster.  Lightdm is trying to run /usr/share/xsessions/ubuntu.desktop which isn't there.

I am running xfce on this remaster so I did the following that fixed the auto login issue.

sudo /usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm-set-defaults -s xfce

which created the /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf file with the following information:
