AV Linux 5.0.3 Released!

Overview:

AV Linux 5.0.3 "Tube" has been released, it represents some important refinements and tweaks to the very successful 5.0.2 release. AV Linux 5.0.3 will be the last ISO update of the 5.0 series and for the first time is accompanied with a 3 part Youtube screencast detailing 'What's New In AV Linux 5.0.3?'. Highlights include Trulan Martin's 3.0.16 Kernel, Iceweasel 9.0.1, gThumb replaces GPicview, better OOTB M-Audio Fast Track Pro 24 bit support, linuxDSP's PEQ-2 demo, a few handy hidden scripts and important updates to almost every featured Video Editor.

Thanks:

Tony Brijeski - Remastersys, forum hosting
RevLinux - forum hosting
Trulan Martin - Kernel development, ISO Testing
Allen Tate - Torrents...PLEASE USE TORRENTS FIRST
varpa - ISO Testing
danboid - makesfz script

SCREENCASTS:

This is my first attempt at a screencast and debut on Youtube...Please be gentle! There was a surprising amount of material to cover so I ended up breaking it into 3 parts, unsurprisingly I missed a few things but the main changes are listed in the Changelog above. These screencasts are not covering AV Linux itself in detail or all of the included applications, simply what features are new for this 5.0.3 release. I hope to take what I've learned here and provide some actual workflow tutorials in the future. I think it important to mention the screencasts were completely captured running AV Linux 5.0.3 on a bootable USB Key and edited later using CinelerraCV 2.2 and Openshot 1.4.2.

After a couple days of tweaking the torrent tracker that I absent-mindedly broke, I got it back up and running this morning and, as of this typing, there are two people currently torrenting the ISO without issue. Please accept my most humble apologies for not paying attention to what I was doing and causing the delayed release of 5.0.3.

Congrats and big heap thanks again to my main man on the iso's GMaq - we love and respect you very much for your continued fantastic work toward making Linux AV easy, accessible and increasingly high-end.

Tube is a funny release name indeed - 'spesh if you're Scottish or familiar with Scot slang! YouTube indeed! Wink

This release is very notable for being the first AV Linux (likely the first in any Linux distro full stop) to include both qsampler - for fast and easy loading of samples - and a version of qtractor with real, fully usable and fully-functional audio AND MIDI automation ready to go! This is major news to me!!! qtractor is a dream of an app now so extra special thanks to the amazing Rui Nuno Capela for his continued fantastic work and devotion to the cause of bringing the world high quality, free audio tools of the slickest order!!

Oh no! Please don't let it mean what my worst fears are suggesting it may... Embarrased  All the wonderful folks from the UK can simply think of it as the 'valve' edition...

Good job !!
Well done - and very inspiring indeed!!!

I wouldn't have guessed that these videoes were your first screencasts.
You've done a great job - the timing, tempo and articulation are perfect in every respect - I enjoy watching them, especially because they are made running the live system. I think they set a pretty high standard!!

Thanks again  Howdy

Great screencasts. Nice to hear the voice behind such a great distro. Hope you can find time to do some more, maybe showing how to use some of the main packages like ardour, jack, qtractor etc.

Glen, thank you A LOT for your work and time you put into "tube", thanks as well to trulan and Tony and the rest of the team. You did a great job, guys !  Howdy

"tube" did install without any excitements, the job was done in less than an hour, so my studio runs again PERFECTLY.   Yahoo

I had minor issues which are outside of AVL, it was an ATI 4250 dual head story, but downloading the recent ATI driver and following the instructions of trulan I found using the forum search, now everything works DIVINE.

Carry on guys !

And to my fellow musicians... let's not forget to appreciate that great work and donate.  Wink

Yours Prof Knaakenbroed

BTW: great video tuts !!! very professional !

AVL 5.0.3 has only been out a few days, and already there is an update to the linuxDSP PEQ-2A Vintage Pultec EQ - apologies to GMaq - this wasn't scheduled to be released until the end of February and was only supposed to add JACK support.  However, the PEQ-2A V1.0.3 now not only has JACK versions included, but also an improved HF boost module which more accurately replicates the complex control interaction of the original Pultec units giving a smooth top-end boost without becoming harsh.  This is a genuine must-have plugin - for any type of music - and the new version should be simple to install (just run the self-contained installer executables in the download).
This is a free uprade as usual, but the introductory price will only be available until the end of February.

Download it here:
