Hey guys!

Right, im pretty much a noob at this... im trying to remaster Linux Mint 12 "lisa" which is a Ubuntu 11:10 based distro...
now the idea of this is to create a operating system to my liking eg, themes, apps, backgrounds, icons, and then back it up to a live cd, therefor not having to re-customize everytime i re-install (which is alot) as i do alot of tinkering and playing around...

where im at, at the moment...

I have my current user setup exactly how i want it... i start up Remastersys, i change the settings, and i click on "User, whose current settings will be used as default"...
i create the CDFS, and i create the .iso... i then test the iso in a virtual machine, it boots up wonderfully, the bootsplash is there and everything... but then it loads the live session, and none of my theme settings or anything have been set, and are still using the original themes that came with the original distro, before customization...

now am i completely missing somethng? is this a gnome 3 issue? or is it me? have i not set all the settings files everywhere?

thanks in advance guys!

I write a simple post in one remaster project i have

Please read the post , special attention to SKEL line...its simple -> move you on terminal  with root to your /home and copy your specifications/customized environment (attention clean all conection data and private documents or .txt) to the directory /etc/skel -> make your remaster. If you qant change the name of .ISO you need edit preferences on remastersys.conf.

You can read my post here

http://flavitulinux.blogspot.com/2011/11/how-you-can-remaster-your-buntu-based.html

I suggest to you edit gnome session , because remastersys need ubiquity and ubiquity dont work properly with unity, edit if you want the gnome session to gnome-classic, or try mate version of Mint based.

Other suggestion -> read the remaster topic on linux mint forum -> dont use the brand mint in your remaster, please.

http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=28717&hilit=remaster

Many projects uses remastersys to make a simple or more specified Ubuntus based deviravites, if you can please share your remaster to others.

You can burn your iso to a pen drive to test and see if instalation method works perfectly.
Use unetbootin to burn the your iso.

I hope help you.

Hey i almost forgot - you can share your remaster with a torrent file - in burnbit you can upload and the torrent every is active to down.

Thanks & good remaster!!!

*PS -> If any users of this forum want to participate in my remaster project please send me a e-mail.

You probably didn't put your themes and other items in the global areas.  They cannot reside in the user folder.  As a result, anything pointing to your user folder gets removed from /etc/skel as it cannot be there like that.  If you have installed any other custom themes or icons, etc they must be moved to the global areas for those settings and then you need to reselect them with your user from the global settings.

My theme is placed in /usr/share/themes/...

I have my problem sorted now... i was missing something very vital... the root ownership after copying the contents of /home/ to /etc/skel/
so basically on line of code: "sudo chown -R root /etc/skel/" sorted my problem.... damn being a noob! hahahahah!

Yeah you give to you other chance, sure you make a good work, step by step the remaster comming ehehe,

all you need for no use brand mint is, remove software center and all icons or themes with the brand of mint and of corse if have a program made by tema mint you need remove, after this your remaster is based on mint but is a creative work made by you and you can share your remaster for friends.

Im use the gnome 2 i like more than Unity, or cinnamon, or gnome 3, ->

is possible make a remaster with gnome 2 with installation of gnome-fallback and edit gnome session default (you cna edit name and type of gnome session)

You can make you plymouth, your lightdm custom, your icons, everything.

If you can try dont exceed 4gb in your remaster because remastersys can give errors and burn image in a DVD is even to 4.7 GB.

I make 4 remaster well succeed, and is a good method to spread Linux and SL, remasterys is absolutely primary tool He is equal to Quality, simplicity, Speed, and amazing efective.

-------------

If you want spread your work for others users you need use a method to host your iso, the easy method for me is torrent, because Megaupload and other sharewares method are off, use any hosting or link torrent.

---

If your project need you can create a derivative page in Ubuntu - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DerivativeTeam/Derivatives -

My Flavitu Linux have one devirative page to inform people about project.

Greetings.
