Hello, I'm trying to compile or install mididings http://das.nasophon.de/mididings/ but it needs a newer version of python, which i understand can create all sorts of issues on the system...

so is there:-

* Anyway to have two versions on the system and switch between them?
* An older packaged version that I can use?
*An alternative application that will do what I want?

Which is to translate midi events in realtime eg... have a pedal message from one controller trigger say a note, chord or pitch bend on  another....

There was a lovely collection call Div's Midi Utils i used in windows about 10 years ago but they disappeared, there was a unix version  as well...

I'd very  much appreciate some help...

Cheers
John

What version of AVLinux are you running?  AVLinux 5.0.3 has python 2.6.6 and mididings requires > 2.5.  I just built mididings on AVLinux 5.0.3 and had to install libboost-thread1.42-dev and libboost-python1.4.2-dev (and a few other boost packages due to dependencies).
Its possible that only one or the other is really needed.

I find mididings to be quite useful though a bit arcane at the beginning.  There is good documentation on the mididings webpage, and an email list if you have further questions.
