Hello,
I have come across a great little application called JAAA (http://wiki.linuxaudio.org/apps/all/jaaa) which is a spectrum analyzer.
I have installed it and in order to run i have to go to the terminal and type...

jaaa -A (to run ALSA mode)

or

jaaa -J (to run JACK mode)

so i thought i would try to put a new menu on the 'AUDIO' category of AVlinux.
I created a little PNG too...

Anyway, i can't find how to put an option into the AVlinuc control panel to run an executable with an option. Is that possible please?

Thanks
Rick

Hi,

The control panel utility is to create a 'quick n' dirty' launcher for most common scenarios. You will need to manually edit the launcher you created with gedit and modify the 'Exec=' line to your needs. If you created the launcher system-wide for all users it should be in /usr/share/applications. If you created it for your user only it should be in your '.local/share/applications' folder in your home folder.

Thanks again Gmaq,

That worked. Thanks, but did experience another 'issue' as i tried to create the second option.
option1 - jaaa -J
this was created using the AV control panel and then edited as instructed in your reply... all worked well. (as long as QTJack was already running)

option2 - jaaa -A
this was created using AV control panel, but overwrote option1

I assume this was because i was calling the same application (jaaa) for 2 instances and somehow AVlinux knew that????

anyway, it's not a problem, i just opened my 'option 1' and 'saved as' and then edited the copy to work with 'option 2'

once again, thanks very much.

I might be new at this.... but i'm enjoying the ride so far.

God bless..... and a small donation is heading your way.

It wasn't so much that AVLinux 'knew' that you were launching the same program, the launcher creator script just created a .desktop file with exactly the same name both times, so the first one you made was over-written by the second one.  You can launch the same program with 20 or 100 different menu entries and the system won't care, but you can't have two files with exactly the same name in the same directory.

As you discovered, simply re-naming or manually creating option 2 and saving it under a different name was all you needed to do.  Maybe a good feature suggestion for the launcher creator script would be to have it check for an existing menu entry and warn you before it overwrites it?
