I do ride also

A little background first. About 15 years ago I came home from the worst gig I ever had, to long to explain, took everything, put it in the closet and quit. I would get a bit itchy over the years but never did anything. About 3 months ago I stated playing a bit at home. It was frustrating tying to get my hands back, I have some tendon issues. After about a month I tried a couple of local jams, man was that nerve racking, stage fright like you read about, but I continued going to them. About 2 weeks ago I sat in with the house band for the night at one of the jams.

The song below is one that was recorded at the gig. It’s recorded on a small Sony recorder I don’t remember the model. Did a little editing in AVLinux using Ardour with a few plugins some EQing and Jamin. Don’t really know what I am doing yet with the mixing and recording.

Do I have all my chops and groove back completely, not yet.

I am playing bass, the one in my Avatar, using a GK 700RB II with an Ampeg 4 10 cabinet. Just bought the amp and cabinet, all the equipment I used to use is to big for me to lug around now.
Man I never realized how much I missed it; IT’S A DISEASE and a costly one at that but I love it! I'm hooked again.

Give a listen, like I said, I have only been back at it for about 3 months.

Comments would be appreciated.

Hey there!

That is really good, the band is great and all the sounds like the harp and guitar are really authentic, good vocalist too, the bass has a perfect tone..not too round and still nice and punchy. The bass playing is impeccable - you have no explaining to do in my opinion.

As far as the recording not bad really for a little field recorder, the recording has a nice club ambience and obviously there is little you can do to change the mix which is pretty decent all things considered. I think you've done a good job of EQing etc. Great stuff, thanks for sharing.

Thanks GMaq, I gota keep plugin, figure it will take a while to get where I want to but I also know I will never be completely satisfied. Cool And that's not a bad thing, if you get satisfied with what you are playing you never get better.  No-No

When I mentioned mixing, I was not referring to this song, I have a song that I recorded about 8 tracks on my system using Ardour that I am learning on.

After working on the other system with AVLinux installed, I am giving serious consideration to dumping my Kubuntu installation and switching over to AVLinux. What you put together is amazing and sure is lot easier than going through all the trouble of setting up my Kubuntu the way I have it. But it was kinda fun and a learning experience. If I do it I'll probably go for another hard drive to set it up on and keep my Kubuntu install also.
