In LXDE, which I love to use, the one issue I have with this GUI is that my new installed programs do not appear in any logical area unless I put them there by adding the shortcut and icon etc... sometimes I have to load gnome or something else it see the OTHER programs... just an idea... can that be done?

Thanks

Hi,

I removed the 'other' category from my custom lxmenu because it literally contains about 40 little odd programs and utilities most of which do not appear at all in /usr/share/applications and most don't have a launcher so they just appear in the menu with the generic executable icon. In my opinion it made the menu very large and disorganized looking so that's why I removed that category.

Anything that doesn't appear in /usr/local/share/applications or /usr/share/applications will not have a launcher anyway. Although it is true that certain Gnome and KDE specific applications need adjustments to their launchers files to appear in the LXDE menu.

I won't put the other category back in the official releases but I could probably provide you an alternative menu file that you could paste in /etc/xdg/menus/
