I am now comfortable in my ability to download and install remastersys.

I use Xubuntu 12.04 on a 32-bit and a 64-bit laptops.

I use Ubuntu Studio on a Desktop.

I started creating isos and then burning the isos on a DVD/RW.

When I run the Live DVD, I get the original default desktop settings.

I want to know if that is normal.

QUESTION:

Should a properly installed Remastersys ignore the desktop settings?

Any help is appreciated.

I think you aren't quite understanding what remastersys is.  It is a tool that makes a live system out of your installed system.  Nothing more and nothing less.  The gui since version 3.0.0-1 has an option to copy user settings over to /etc/skel where they will be used as default for each new user created but unless you explicitly use this, no settings are moved or changed.  If you ever wonder what the live user will look like, simply create a test user and login as that test user.  This will show you what the live user desktop will be and look like.

Xfce starting in Ubuntu 12.04 has changed how some of the config options are saved and may include user folder specifications which cause those config files to be removed from /etc/skel.

The default settings for a number of desktops can be found within the folders of /etc/xdg/
