This is a quick introduction to the Equinox Desktop Environment
http://equinox-project.org/and the Ubuntu 12.04 remaster rem-ede-final-1.iso which contains only EDE as the desktop
environment.
EDE is an extremely light desktop - lighter than LXDE. Version 2.0 of EDE was recently released
and this is the first live installable iso that features EDE.
For the most part it has been left as default as possible with only the following changes
to the plain EDE install.
Desktop Background is the Swar Light Blue Background
Window buttons are from the Moomex theme
GTK3 theme is clearwaita-master for the gtk3 apps and installer
User Administration, Software Management and Printer Administration added to the EDE Config Tool
Several launchers for common items added to the base of the menu
Desktop Icons for common items added to the desktop
The ede-panel has fixed items and is not very configurable at the moment. I have been communicating
with one of the developers of EDE - Sanel and he has helped me sort some stuff out that made
this iso possible.

pcmanfm file manager that can also connect to smb:// ftp:// and sftp:// shares
leafpad text editor
abiword word processor
gnumeric spreadsheet
evince document reader
file-roller archive tool
mtpaint graphics editor
synaptic package manager
remastersys system backup tool
chromium web browser
network manager for network connection management
parole media player
gparted partition editor
xfburn cd/dvd burning app
ufw firewall is installed and setup by default
batterymon for battery monitoring
volti for sound mixer control
and a few other smaller apps
This first update iso has the following changes:
Replaced firefox with chromium as it runs a bit better on lower resources
Replaced mplayer with parole as mplayer was crashing randomly - known ubuntu i386 issue
Replace Gnome user tools with a lighter user tool I created called Remastersys User Tools
fixed an issue where dialogs would stay on top of other windows
added a terminal launcher to the base menu
removed some other libraries and apps that aren't used
removed dia - diagram editor as it isn't really a commonly used tool
removed all pulse audio apps and libraries
The iso is 689MB in size so it will fit on a cd and can be installed on an older machine
or newer one. It was developed on an old P4 system and it runs very well on that and my
