I have Googled it a lot, I know that this is now a thorny issue for many in every up-to-date distro.  Does anyone reading this, have a good manual resolution changer for Xorg ????!  My wife and I are about to get a new SVGA-compatible TV, 16x9 format, so this is likely to get important to me soon :-)
