The cyclic corrosion test is a more realistic salt spray test than
conventional constant state exposure. Because actual outdoor
exposure usually involves both dry and wet environments, it is
meaningful to speed up the laboratory to simulate these natural,
periodic conditions. Studies have shown that after cyclic corrosion
testing, the relative corrosion rate, structure, morphology and
outdoor corrosion results of the samples are very similar.
Therefore, the cyclic corrosion test is closer to real outdoor
exposure than the traditional salt spray method. They can
effectively evaluate many corrosion mechanisms such as general
corrosion, galvanic corrosion and crevice corrosion.
The purpose of the cyclic corrosion test is to reproduce the type
of corrosion in an outdoor corrosive environment. The test exposes
the sample to a series of different conditions in a circulating
environment. A simple exposure cycle, such as the Prohesion test,
exposes the sample to a cycle consisting of salt spray and dry
conditions. More complex automotive testing methods require a cycle
of humidity and rest, in addition to salt spray and drying cycles.
Initially these test cycles were performed manually, and the
laboratory operator moved the sample from the salt spray chamber to
the wet test chamber and then to a dry or stand-up unit.
Microprocessor-controlled test chambers automate these test steps,
reducing test uncertainty.
According to GB, ISO, IEC, ASTM, JIS standards, the spray test
conditions can be set and meet: GB/T 20854-2007, ISO14993-2001,
GB/T5170.8-2008, GJB150.11A-2009, GB/ T2424.17-2008,
GBT2423.18-2000, GB/T2423.3-2006, GB/T 3423-4-2008.

Spray process for cyclic corrosion testing:
The salt spray system consists of a solvent tank, a pneumatic
system, a water tank, a spray tower, a nozzle, etc., and the brine
is transported from the water storage tank to the test chamber by
the Bernotte principle. The spray nozzle and the heat pipe work to
provide the required humidity and temperature in the tank. The salt
solution is atomized by compressed air by spraying.
The temperature inside the box is raised to the specified
requirements through the bottom heating rod. After the temperature
is stable, the spray switch is turned on. At this time, the salt
spray test is performed. Compared with the ordinary salt spray test
machine, the temperature in the test chamber is heated by the
heating rod. While ensuring temperature uniformity, the effect of
water vapor on the test results of the ordinary salt spray test
machine is minimized.
